From Jeremy Miller, AMTA MN Government Relations Chair

Greetings friends and colleagues -

As part of the continuing efforts to pass a reasonable state-wide regulation for the Massage and Bodywork Therapy Profession, practitioners, schools and organizations representing Massage and Bodywork Therapy professionals are teaming up to gather at the MN State Capitol. The goal is simple: to show MN's legislators just how much support there is for this legislation. To that end, the AMTA-MN, ABMP and the Alliance for Licensing Massage Therapists (ALMT) as well as several school partners are working together to organize a "Massage & Bodywork Day at the Capitol" event, scheduled for the morning of Wed Feb 29, 2012. Participation is free and we would love to have you join us. Read on for more details and to sign up using the quick online participant registration form.

 Plans for the Day

On Wednesday Feb 29th we will meet at the Capitol at 8:30am and have meetings with legislators scheduled until 12noon. We will be attempting to schedule appointments with each participant's House and Senate member, based on the participant's home voting district.  If you can join us earlier in the day, Northwestern Health Sciences University (NWHSU) in Bloomington has generously offered to host a 7am light breakfast and briefing as well as provide bus transportation to the Capitol for any who want/need it. At the end of the day, buses would then be arriving back to Bloomington around 12:30.  Otherwise, you can meet us at the Capitol at 8:30am and take part in a quick briefing for those who weren't able to hear the briefing earlier and start our day.

Optional Beginning to the Day

7:00am   Breakfast Northwestern Health Sciences University Bloomington

7:30am   Briefing and discussion of talking points for the Day

8:00am   Buses leave for St. Paul

Official Start to the Day

8:30am   Briefing at the Capitol (Room # to be determined)

9:00am - 12 noon      Participants meet with Legislators

Those who rode the bus from Bloomington to St Paul will return by bus to Bloomington around 12:30.

Logistics

·         While participation is completely free and all who support the passage of a state-wide, proactive regulation for Massage and Bodywork Therapists are invited, registration is required with the link below.

·         Appointments with lawmakers will be pre-scheduled based on your home legislative district, which we will determine once you have registered.

·         As NWHSU has held a similar day for their students and alumni for several years, they will be lending administrative support this year, (scheduling the appointments with lawmakers, organizing information packets, etc).

·         Information packets will be provided on the day of the event and will include your scheduled appointments with room numbers and names of others in your meeting, talking points, map of the Capitol grounds, etc.

·         We will post a quick informational video online with basic talking points for the bill and the do's and don'ts of talking to a legislator.
